Winter in the Park
Yesterday I posted a sketch I did and today here is a photo of the same spot plus some surprising shots of roses in bloom, don’t they know its late December?

27 December was the last meeting of the Hotham Park Sketcher’s group. Two of us were sufficiently recovered from festivities to make it out to a dry but chilly park. I settled myself in front of the gravel garden pond and attempted to catch the plant textures but soon got cold. I did take a…
Another Sketcher’s day in Hotham Park. Watercolour is not the best on cartridge paper and I might add, not improved by the wind flipping it over onto what turned out be yellow brown birds poo, at least it wasn’t purple!
In the park today i tried to sketch the willows bright in the autumn sun but, alas this does not do them justice.
In Sketchers group at Hotham Park today I sat to draw a very complicated old tree root. Perhaps foolhardy as we only have an hour. The work looked rather undefined until I added some dark pen lines when I got home. I always think roots like this look alive and always remind me of Graham…

Hotham Park Sketchers were to meet today but as a welcome steady rain was falling I ended up alone. Settling myself in a little pavilion with my book and watercolours I enjoyed the solitude and lovely sound of rain dripping from the roof. The landscape was quite magical with what I call a mother of…
It was hot in the Park so I sought shade for the hour sketching with the group. I had forgotten my folding stool so ended up in an awkward sideways position on a bench with the book in front of me and the paints on the bench too. I wanted to be broad and bold…
At the sketching in the park session today I decided to try using oil cryons again as I do like a challenge. It certainly was a challenge. To start with I was sitting in the sun in the Lodge house garden, mainly to get out of the nippy wind but alas the hot sun had…
Hotham Park Sketchers met today and it was so nice to feel the warm sun while I sat in the little Mediterranean garden drawing this Jerusalem Sage (Phlomis) which is one of my favourite plants with its velvety leaves and green buds. It will erupt bright yellow flowers later then green seedheads changing to a…
