Cork Oak, Sketching History
I sketched in the park today making a study of this old Cork Oak which was planted by William Fletcher on the occasion of his marriage. The Fletchers have long gone but this wonderful tree is still there.

I have a bad case of Hirst envy: not his success, originality and market savvy,(well those too), but the fact that he is rich enough to pay someone else to fill in his dots.

William Fletcher, resident of Hotham park House travelled around the world collecting plants for his garden. Looking at his planting scheme he might have benefitted from a few lessons from Capability Brown.
